Taking a chance with drunk driving could have you facing much more than just DUI charges. A Providence woman recently found that out when she was pulled over for speeding and running stop signs at 1:00 am on Friday, June 2nd.
When the police pulled her over, they found four minor children in the vehicle. They were not properly restrained in car seats. Upon being stopped, the woman became combative with the troopers and is now facing a long list of criminal charges and traffic violations, including:
- Driving under the influence
- Refusing to submit to a chemical test
- Disorderly conduct
- Child neglect
- Threatening the troopers who pulled her over
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
- Seatbelt violations
Are You Willing To Gamble?
Everyone understands that they run the risk of being charged with DUI if they drive drunk. Some of us are comfortable with that gamble and get behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol or drugs. But, most people when they think about driving while impaired fail to consider that they may be exposing themselves to a much wider range of criminal charges or problems if they are stopped.
While this woman’s case may have been extreme, people need to consider all of the potential consequences they could face after driving drunk. What if they cause an accident? What if someone is injured or killed because of the decision to drive drunk? Even a minor accident, could involve the police and lead to criminal charges. People need to imagine those worst case scenarios before they get behind the wheel and they need to ask themselves if they are truly prepared to deal with all of the consequences they could face for driving drunk.
